  • Art on the Lake 2018: The Bold and The Beautiful
    10:30 -16:30
    2018-05-12

This fun and hands on workshop encourages creativity and freedom of expression while providing the basis for a great painting. From the empty canvas to your completed painting this workshop will guide beginners through the techniques of acrylic painting. Are you someone who has always been curious about your artistic side, but  don’t know where to start? Are you someone who says, “I can only draw a stick man”? Maybe you paint a little, but love it a lot, and just need  guidance to begin painting more? In one jam-packed, fun weekend, you’ll lose the fear of being creatively stuck. You’ll be painting with more purpose and passion in no time!

In this course you will learn:

    • How to mix paints and set up your pallet
    • The importance of colour composition
    • How to create texture
    • Paint application techniques

The first day of the workshop students will begin working on a small practice piece. Building and learning from this, on the second day students will then create a bright and engaging final painting.

    Instructor:

Andrea is a contemporary artist and art instructor, based in Whistler, BC. Her work is characterized by bold colors, messy loose brush strokes, and darkly playful imagery. She examines the relationship and connection between all things including humans, animals, memory, language, belief systems, the environment, and the impact these have on one another. She also experiments with different types of materials, and often incorporates found objects into her works. Often she references the idiosyncrasies of romantic relationships.

    Guest of Honour

    Kelsey Serwa

    Kelsey Serwa – Olympic Champion

Kelsey Serwa’s accomplishments in the sport of Ski Cross include 2018 Olympic Champion, 2014 Olympic Vice-Champion, 2011 World Champion, two-time X-Games Champion as well as eight-time World Cup winner.

Kelsey Serwa demonstrated incredible determination and perseverance fighting from a succession of knee surgeries to stand on the Olympic podium at Sochi 2014 where she won silver behind teammate Marielle Thompson for Canada’s record third 1-2 finish of the Games.

After taking the 2014-15 season off to allow her body to recover fully, Serwa was once again a force to be reckoned with in 2015-16, highlighted by her victory at the Winter X Games. But she encountered more injury trouble in December 2016 when she overshot a jump in training, damaging the cartilage in her knee due to the extreme impact on landing. She underwent surgery, ending her season. Serwa started the 2017-18 season with a third-place finish at the World Cup season-opener in Val Thorens, France for her 19th career World Cup podium.

At the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics Winter Games Serwa won gold ahead of teammate Brittany Phelan with silver making it the 2nd consecutive 1-2 finish and the 3rd consecutive time that Canada has won this event since introduced in Vancouver 2010.

Serwa grew up in Kelowna, B.C. where her grandfather was a co-founder of her local hill, Big White Ski Resort.

The white dinner is the culinary gala showpiece of Bici Gusti. Taking place Sunday night, the distinguished chefs combine their talents to deliver a beautiful four course meal in the Cabana tent.

May is Giro d’Italia month – the famous Italian cycling race. Its signature colour is pink – and in homage to the event we’ll be adding a touch of pink to proceedings. Make sure you adorn your white dress with a splash of pink: it’s a White Dinner meets Cena in rosa.
